May 15, 2024 — Albania witnessed a notable surge in photovoltaic energy production during the initial three months of 2024, according to recent data released by the Energy Regulatory Authority.
The report indicates a 2% increase in energy output from photovoltaic plants, totaling 2,477,890 MWh. March emerged as the leading month, outperforming the preceding two months in energy generation.
Karavasta, home to Albania's largest solar plant, played a key role in this surge, producing 45,400 MWh of energy. This achievement marked the highest recorded solar energy output in the country. Following closely, the Qyrsaq Dam plant, under KESH ownership, contributed significantly with a production quantity of 1,379 MWh in the first quarter.
Moreover, businesses operating in the open market also significantly bolstered energy production, with their output increasing by 151 MWh.
However, amidst this surge in production, there was a noteworthy decline in electricity consumption. The Energy Regulatory Authority reported a 25.8% decrease in consumption during the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in the previous year.
