Albania introduces National Chamber of Economy to boost business representation

May 15, 2025 — Albania has taken a significant step towards economic reform with the introduction of the National Chamber of Economy. The government has recognized the importance of enhancing the representation of Albanian businesses, aiming to strengthen their financial position both locally and regionally.

The establishment of the National Chamber of Economy reflects Albania's commitment to aligning with European market standards and fostering fair competition. This move comes as part of a broader effort to encourage international trade cooperation and provide professional development opportunities for businesses.

Under the new legislation, commercial entities in Albania will be required to register with the National Chamber of Economy, with an annual membership fee set at 1,000 lekë. This fee will contribute to the chamber's budget, which will also be supported by membership revenues, service fees, and donations.

To support smaller businesses and new businesses, the government will waive the membership fee for the first year, providing financial assistance from the state budget. However, businesses registering for the first time at the National Business Center will be subject to the annual membership fee of 1,000 lekë thereafter. The specific fee for other businesses will be determined by the General Assembly of the National Chamber of Economy.

In addition to facilitating membership, the National Chamber of Economy will have the authority to manage revenues and assets to fulfill its functions effectively. This includes the establishment of professional qualification programs and the promotion of fair competition practices.
