June 7, 2024 — Gjirokastra, a city steeped in history and culture, recently hosted a unique event as a collection of vintage retro cars took over its historic streets. These rare vehicles, mostly made in Italy, were displayed as part of a collaboration between the Municipality of Gjirokastra and the Italian embassy.
The cars, dating back to the mid-20th century, are the pride and joy of their owners, who are members of the Old Cars Club Bari. The club members mentioned that participating in such events has become a regular activity for them, as visitors and curious onlookers flock to see the vintage vehicles.
One car owner, who has owned his Alfa Romeo since 1975, expressed his delight at showcasing his vehicle in such a beautiful setting. "It's a pleasure to be here in Gjirokastra, a city full of history and character," he said.
Another car owner, who owns a Lancia Fulvia Sport, echoed similar sentiments. "We've been on many similar tours in Greece, but this year we're in Albania, and it's been a wonderful experience," he said.
The event, part of the Italian Week of Culture, has drawn large crowds of residents and tourists alike. Visitors have been posing for hours in front of the collection of vintage cars, which are worth several million euros.
