Tirana, November 4, 2024 — This week, Tirana welcomed a lively group of young people from across the Balkans as part of the B40 network, which aims to enhance cultural and economic cooperation in the region. Mayor Erion Veliaj opened the forum, highlighting the significance of Tirana being named the Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue for 2025.
“It’s a real joy to host a forum of youth from all over the Balkans. We have so much in common, which is why this gathering is so important for our future,” Veliaj said. He emphasized Tirana’s role as a unifying force, showcasing the cultural richness of the Balkans.
Veliaj described the Mediterranean Capital of Culture title as a fantastic opportunity to bring together the region's youth. “We should focus on building a better future over the next 100 years,” he stated.
The municipality has also prioritized guiding young people toward promising career paths. Veliaj pointed to successful initiatives at the Pyramid, which offer invaluable opportunities for local youth. “Every month, 2,000 children participate in free courses. We see this as a digital right,” he said, reinforcing the idea that access to education is essential.
He concluded that Tirana's transformation over the last decade should inspire other cities in the region, demonstrating how such investments can invigorate local economies.
