Kosovo-Albania theatre showcase to debut in Tirana

Tirana, October 29, 2024 — In a celebration of artistic collaboration and cultural exchange, the Multimedia Center from Pristina, alongside the National Theatre of Albania, the Experimental National Theatre "Kujtim Spahivogli," and the M.A.M Center, will launch the inaugural Kosovo-Albania Theatre Showcase from October 29 to November 2. This groundbreaking event represents a significant milestone for regional theatre, uniting diverse voices and talents from across the Balkans.

More than 80 international guests, including festival selectors, theatre critics, and practitioners from the United States, Germany, France, Italy, and beyond, will converge in Tirana for a vibrant program that blends theatrical performances, panel discussions, and opportunities for emerging playwrights and artists. With 10 performances showcasing works from Albania, Kosovo, Greece, and Serbia, this showcase aims to enrich the cultural dialogue and foster new connections among theatre professionals.

The event will open with “Lule Sajza,” a compelling production from the Experimental National Theatre, followed by a unique performance by the renowned polyphonic group "Bashkimi" during the festival’s official inauguration. The day will conclude with the premiere of “Fausti,” produced by the National Theatre of Albania, promising an exciting start to the festivities.

On October 30, the program will feature a panel discussion titled “Theatre landscape in post-communist Albania,” offering insights into the evolving cultural identity of the region. This will be followed by a performance of “Bottecchia,” starring celebrated actors Ema Andrea and Rafael Hoxhaj, enriching the audience's experience with compelling narratives. The day will culminate with “Të gjashtët kundër Turqisë,” produced by the Multimedia Center from Pristina, reflecting the power of theatre to address social issues and inspire dialogue.

The showcase continues on October 31 at the Pyramid, presenting “Poetic Consultations,” where the public will have a rare opportunity to engage with distinguished actors and share in the creative process. The day will feature insightful panels and performances, concluding with “Kamarja e Turpit,” from the National Theatre of Kosovo, which is sure to leave a lasting impression.

This event, which has flourished in Pristina for six years, now expands into Albania, aiming to promote the rich theatrical traditions of the region. It not only highlights the diverse cultural tapestry of the Balkans but also emphasizes the importance of collaboration in the arts. Participants include notable figures from various international theatres, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and artistic exploration.
