Documentary “Bekim Fehmiu” premieres at Sarajevo Film Festival

Sarajevo, July 26, 2024 - The Sarajevo Film Festival welcomed the Bosnian premiere of the documentary “Bekim Fehmiu” today. Directed by Valmir Tertini and produced by CINEMANIA, this film was financed by the National Center of Cinematography. It features exclusive interviews with Branka Petriç Fehmiu, the wife of the late Bekim Fehmiu, and insights from other notable figures in the arts.

Bekim Fehmiu, the first Albanian actor to gain fame across the former Yugoslavia, remains a towering figure in Balkan cinematography. His successful career in both film and theater left a lasting legacy. The documentary has previously premiered in Tirana and Kosovo and has been showcased in several other countries where it was filmed.

In addition to celebrating Fehmiu's life, the Sarajevo Film Festival also hosts entries from other Albanian filmmakers. Competing for the prestigious "Heart of Sarajevo" award are two short films from Kosovo. “Rrugës” by Samir Karahoda and “Si e Verdhë e Sëmurë” by Norika Sefa, both supported by the Kosovo Cinematographic Center, represent the region's vibrant film culture.

The National Center of Cinematography has extended its best wishes to all Albanian filmmakers participating in the festival. Their works highlight the rich cultural tapestry and storytelling traditions of the Balkans.

As the festival continues, audiences can look forward to a diverse range of films that reflect the unique perspectives and histories of the region.

The Bosnian premiere of "Bekim Fehmiu" is a tribute to a legendary actor whose influence still resonates today.
